Well, after the excitement of yesterday, today is a return to normality and a chance to get on top of several small jobs.  Task one was to pop around to the church to add my selection of fruit and vegetables to their harvest display.  I love how these traditions continue across the generations.  In our village we have an independent meals on wheels so all food donated goes to them to help with their work.  Then it was home to cut 192 2 1/2 inch squares!  I know!  Back in January I committed to making a quilt which involved applique, embroidery and patchwork.  I suspect that it will not be completed by the deadline of 31st December but cutting these squares as part of the patchwork at least is one step closer!

After a bout of tidying up (particularly stroking those purchases made yesterday before putting away!) it was time to walk the dogs and then make some more soup for lunch.  Today's weather started off really nicely but a chill started to creep in around lunchtime so I wanted to make time in the afternoon to work on one of the quilt's blocks - "A quilters garden" - in front of the fire.  Once the applique pieces have been sewn on using blanket stitch I will add details such as a washing line and vegetables in the veg patch, using embroidery stitches.  My aim is to complete this block, plus the surrounding squares by the end of tomorrow.

The final task for the day is to put the garden table and umbrella away.  The umbrella has had to dry out and the table comes into the conservatory for the winter to protect it.  With a large glass top this is not my favourite task but it is a job well done.

So - a quiet yet fruitful day - rounded off with another dose of Strictly Come Dancing.  Sometimes you need these quiet days to get on top of those mundane jobs that make life easier to navigate.

  1. Sounds like a fruitful day indeed, looking forward to seeing how the quilters garden work turns out.
