Day 3 - Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art though?

Last night's opera was a spectacle.  Having read the story I could make out what was going on but I don't think that I will ever love it.  However the three of us did not think the combination of long dresses and climbing steps through - at different points both Trisha and I nearly took a tumble. When the steps are centuries old stone and marble that would have hurt!

So - on to today and it's time to hit Verona.  Tomorrow it's Venice so we want to be nice and fresh for that one.  We also needed to drink more water after yesterday ( ahead of you there mum and Happy Mum!). So after a lie in we forced ourselves to go down to breakfast ( we'd paid for it so why not?). I have to say that you've never seen a breakfast like it.  The choices are so varied it would take forever to list them all - and it's a buffet so you can keep going if you wish.  I had a bowl of fresh fruit with yoghurt followed by some bread with ham and cheese  plus coffee of course!

The plan was to get one of those hop on, hop off buses - the temperature was forecast to be a max of 34 degrees but would feel like 39 degrees!! We did just that - stepping off to enjoy a leisurely light lunch in front of the arena.  The afternoon was a repeat with a second bus tour ( different route of course) with Julia and Trisha stopping off for some gift shopping.  Me?  I came back to the hotel only to see the girls dragging themselves back, very red faced, an hour later. This weather is far too punishing!

Tonight the plan is to have my dinner under the stars.  It's a family owned restaurant that comes recommended by the hotel, is reasonable and used by the residents of verona - looking forward to it and will report back tomorrow!

By the way - check in opens for our return flight in 17 hours - it will soon be time to return to reality!

  1. Certainly sounds hot - Chris thinks it sounds more like a survival challenge than a holiday! Still, the food sounds nice!
