Day 4 - sink or swim? ( Julia's idea for a title!

Last night we had a lovely meal as planned - although it very nearly didn't happen.  Julia had locked the safe without her glasses on - and we couldn't unlock it to get the money out.  No matter what number combination we tried the safe would not open!  So we got a little man in to sort us out.  Lesson number one - don't let Julia near the safe!!!

For the meal I had the most wonderful mushroom risotto and some ice cream for afters.  The whole bill , including drinks, came to 77 euros for the three of us ( around £55) which I didn't think was too bad at all.  When we came back to hotel our batman recognised us and served us our "usual" - coffe, tea and bitter lemon - hardly the last of the big drinkers!

So - onto today and it's off to Venice we go.  The train journey takes around an hour so it meant an early start- we were not a pleasant sight at 6:30 when the alarm went off let me tell you!!!

To say that it was hot is an understatement and progress around Venice was slow - trying to dodge the sun and walking like any other tourists - thousands of them!  The trouble with such hot weather is that you don't particularly want to eat so we confined ourselves to ice cream, slush puppie and a peach muffin - hardly healthy!  Mind you I drank about four bottles of water and wore a hat - so feel much much better than Tuesday!  The aim for today appeared to be more shopping and a visit to St Marks square.  Clearly it was difficult to find any shops, let alone those selling hats or Murano glass - but we managed to find a couple ( of thousand!).  We also made it to St Marks square where, after Julia and Trisha shopped some more, we caught a water taxi back to the train station.  All in all it was a lovely day only marred by the intense heat. ( 37 degrees but forecast to feel like 42!)

The plan this evening is to have a bar meal and then pack.  We need to check out by 9am tomorrow so that we arrive at the airport in time to check in.  It's been a lovely, if very very VERY hot one, but it's always nice to go home!  It will be interesting to see how the garden and house looks - I've already been told that the bags of garden rubbish reach the top of the shed - yikes!!!

  1. I am feeling that heat!
Only once did we book a holiday in Aug in the south of Spain...its the sort of mistake you only do once when you don't like too much heat!
I can imagine how busy it would be in all those little nooks and cranny's of lanes there! Well done on buying a hat! Such a shame you don't know how to upload photos though!
Hard to believe its all coming to an end.

  3. Hope your flight goes well as they have forecast bad thunderstorms tomorrow (welcome back to British weather). We are off to norfolk next Friday somehow I don't think we will have the same problem with the heat. We are packing the wellies and flask.
