Getting Started - who else can get excited by a new roof?

So - today was the day for the builders to arrive and get started on replacing the flat roof.  Its only a small roof but they removed wood that resembled Weetabix - except Weetabix was stronger - guess that it was long overdue!!  Even better - they seem to have done the job without disturbing the internal plastering.  They arrived on time and worked continuously - apart from the tea breaks and biscuits of course.  I don't know about you but I always feel a little uneasy when workmen are around - I don't always know what to do with myself and can't really relax - so I spent the morning sewing.

I had seen a table runner at the spalding quilt show and decided to adapt it - it used Lynette
Anderson fabrics - my favourite designer - and the colours complemented the dresser.  There was also enough fabric to go on top of the small set of drawers and, I hope, to make some matching coasters!!Its not finished yet - there needs to be a third Dresden plate on the small cream square and then all three need to be hand sewn.  Then the three large squares need to be joined and quilted but its a good start and I am pleased with it.

Last night, you may recall, was also the "opening" of the conservatory - the first time that I had entertained in there - it went down a storm - as did the remaining slices of cake!!  The recipe is definitely  hit and I was dispatched to print
out more copies!  Oh - by the way - they liked the conservatory as well.

The cake, however, may be the root cause of my weight loss story this week - the scales seem to have remained stuck at the same weight!

  1. Loving the look of the sewing project, can see how well it will compliment the new painted dresser :)
Know just what you mean about workmen being around, I cant settle to anything, I try and save the ironing for such occasions!
Good to hear the recipe was a hit....oops to the scales, but staying the same is better than gaining!

  7. This is the third time I've tried to send this- apologies if they all turn, if they do they'll all be different as I keep forgetting my exact wording.
Shock, just seen my photo in your lovely conservatory. I know what you mean about having the builders in. You just feel you can't get on. They always seem to want to ask a question or be desperate for a cuppa tea.
