Aches and pains

Well the back ache came back with a vengeance today - with an ache running down my right leg.  Even worse when I drove (which I did to Tesco to fill up with petrol and do some shopping -  and the again to Hull as I shall explain later) the pain shot up my leg when I moved my foot from the accelearation pedal to the brake pedal.  Needless to say I drove carefully!

So the morning started off early and, by 8:20am I had arrived at Tesco.  It was so quiet then - clearly a good time to shop.  After the shopping was done, and the car filled up with diesel, it was time to accomplish a challenge - going to a drive through McDonalds.  Now  I have taken a lot of stick for putting this on my challenge list but the idea was either to be difficult or to take you out of you comfort zone.  Going to  a drive through was an alien act to me - despite the large sign saying order here I didn't even know that you spoke on some form of intercom that was situated away from the actual building to order your food!!  However, as you can see, I did it - ordering a very chaste cup of coffee so that it didn't spoil the diet!  Happymum had recommended the pineapple and mango ice smoothie - but the weather was too cool for that.

I also completed a second challenge by choosing a young lady to send a card to from Post Pals .I chose Faith, and her younger sister Mae, to send these two cards to.  Faith is a teenager ad sometimes these young people can be overlooked.  Also Faith is blind and loves chocolate cake - I thought that these felt cards would be a good match. (Please ignore the upside down photo - I have no idea what happened there!!)

So - suffering from the bad back I, once again, ensconced myself in the kitchen - with the hot water bottle and began to wax the drawers.  They suggest two coats and it does slightly darken the colour of the paint but it will protect it for the future.  After a quick lunch of macaroni cheese and ham (3 1/2 syns in total in case anyone is counting - with an apple and grapes for afters) it was time to set off for Hull with my good friend Wendy.  We were visiting a good friend Tanya who has just been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and is recovering from an operation to remove the tumour.  She's had a tough time recently and we were going to cheer her up - or that was the plan!!

On the way  we stopped off at a Toby Carvery.  Now you must note that I had researched this move from a slimming world perspective and chose creafully - ending up with a total of 9 syns which, with the earlier 3.5 would bring me in under the 15 total.  Sadly I did not bargain for Wendy's bad influence and the honeycomb ice cream sundae - I looked it up AFTER I had indulged - 36.5 syns - woops!!!  Well tomorrow is another day I guess!

Tanya was looking well considering and extremely pleased with her raffle win of a quilt kit - plenty of fabric to inspire her - she has decreed that Wendy and I are to help her make the quilt when she comes home.

So that's it for my day - two challenges in the bag so now on track.  As someone suggests and extra one - such as walking across the Humber Bridge and back again - a 4 miles round trip - they are going into the challenge plus section to motivate and inspire toi stretch myself even further.

  1. The trip across the water also included a visit to b & m store, Iceland and waitrose, anyone would think we're deprived of shopping, but when you live where we do it would be a pity not to pop in!!
Both home safely to nurse our achy back, legs shoulders and neck! And as for being a bad influence 're the pudding, well life's too short and it had to be done, in reality I could have eaten at least 3 of those. A good afternoon with good company, thanks for driving, look forward to see you plan for tomorrow x

  2. Well done on TWO challenges in ONE day, and all with a bad back! I must admit, that photo of the drive thru is VERY familiar to me! Loved the idea of the tactile cards :) Am sure they will be well received. I was particularly impressed with how you are able to write their names (in red) and LINK to the site...one day when you are short of things to blog about, perhaps you could show numpties like me how to do it!
As for the syns...well....as you say, tomorrow is another day, you have many more before the year is up to make up for it.
Is waxing on the paint necessary because it is chalk paint?

    1. I don't know - but that's what they told me. In terms of the link if you find the site you want to link to and then copy the website address. Then highlight the words you want to change colour and click on link when creating your post. A box will pop up with space for you to paste the address that you've copied. Hope that this makes sense!

  3. Sorry to hear you are still in so much pain. Do you think it sciatica? Sounds a bit like it. You didn't mention all the other shops you visited in your blog!! Sounds as though you had a good time and i'm sure your friend appreciated it. That is perhaps another challenge you could do. Hospital visiting - what do you think?

    1. Time - there is just not enough time in the day - but its something to think about! As for the other shops - we stopped to go to Waitrose and stumbled across a whole range of shops - Bakers dog food at £2.99 for the four pots etc We just couldn't let it go!!

    2. It could be sciatica - certainly the hot water bottle treatment helps and the pain is more through the buttock than the usual back pain. However it would appear that if it is sciatica then it should go within 6 weeks - so lets hope!

  4. I have had sciatica on and off since I was about 18, I am glad to report it usually responds well to painkillers and mine has never gone on for more than a week, in most cases only a day or so. I was told to use a heat lamp way back then, I offered it to a friend a year to two ago who was suffering with it, she said she was told NO heat, only cool pads!! How things have changed...but if heat is helping you, go with it!
Thanks for the tip on the link....will give it a go.

    1. Hey it could be worse! I just get frustrated when it holds me up. I'm having the sewing group here on Wednesday so want the conservatory finished by then.
